National Flag Day!

National Flag Day
Every year, we Americans celebrate National Flag Day.  A presidential proclamation on May 30, 1916 by President Wilson established Flag Day on June 14.   President Truman signed an Act of Congress on August 3, 1949 that established June 14 of each year as National Flag Day. More historical information can be found at

Did you know that the red and white stripes stand for the original 13 Colonies and the 50 white stars on the blue background stand for the States?  That is exactly right!  The last star added to the Flag was Hawaii when they became the 50th State on July 4, 1960. Many Americans celebrate National Flag day by displaying the Red, White and Blue Flag in front of their homes or their businesses.  We have even seen Flags flying on the antennas of vehicles or stickers on side windows of vehicles.   Wearing of the Flag colors are another way of celebrating.

At Unique In-Home Designs, my Sister and I (Barbara and Ann) celebrate National Flag Day by remembering those having lost their lives and those currently serving to keep our Country Safe and our Freedom.  Both of our husbands served in the Armed Forces (Army, Marine Corps and Air Force) with over 40 years between them.

See you next time on Unique In-Home Designs Blog.
